SARA SHEIKH, LICSW

I’m a board approved supervisor and licensed clinical social worker with a trauma-informed holistic approach to therapy. I’m most passionate about empowering folks to mindfully engage in a process of self-discovery and transformation.

I’m dedicated to normalizing mental health and squashing the idea that healing is only for the privileged. I am committed to a process of decolonizing mental healthcare and seeking to find healing, meaning, and connection through culturally-affirming practices.

There is no shame in exploring different aspects of your life experiences, identity, values, and relationships. Taking time to attune to your mind, feelings, body, relationships, or spirituality is a powerful expression of self-compassion and connectivity.

I work with people from all backgrounds, from public schools to community mental health agencies and immigrant-rich cultural institutions. As a South Asian-American daughter of an immigrant, I honor the many ways in which our different identities intersect and shape our unique psychological patterns and ways of being.

My Approach

In therapy, you have the potential for experiencing a new, integrated version of yourself. I support your natural rhythm for self-exploration and honor the space you need for your innate wisdom to emerge. Through a collaborative exploration, you will gain insight to see things in a new and different way while connecting with healing tools that match your natural strengths.

I offer an inclusive, compassionate, no-judgment zone to feel what you need to feel. I welcome all aspects of who you are.  Nothing you’re feeling is ever too much. There is no “right or wrong” timeframe for your journey.

I take a holistic approach to help you release the negative effects of trauma on your body, mind, and spirit. I integrate EMDR, Brainspotting, mindfulness, attachment theory, Internal Family Systems, and yoga-based psychotherapy to help reestablish ownership of your body and mind and attune to your feelings without becoming overwhelmed, ashamed, enraged, or shut down.

This approach promotes greater resilience, increased energy, and stronger interpersonal relationships, allowing you to live your best life.

My clients are people who are experiencing…

  • Life transitions

  • Grief and loss

  • Recovery from adversity and trauma

  • Anxiety and burnout

  • Cultural displacement

  • Overt or covert discrimination

  • Relationship concerns

  • Identity or self-esteem issues

  • Crisis of faith

What people are saying…

For the first time in my history of therapy treatments I didn’t feel just like a client, but like a complex person with unique needs and life experiences. With Sara, you are treated like a whole person, and not just someone with problems to be fixed. She combines sound clinical practices with compassion and empathy, maximizing the use of every session by helping uncover obstacles and opportunities for growth and healing.
