Equitable Pricing

Traditional therapy business models rely on methods that create financial barriers for people who need help.

I am building a practice that values equity and collective care. Using an equitable pricing model is one way to create a more equitable system.

Market value for therapy in this area is upwards of $220 for a 55-minute session. This is the cost to support practice operations, license requirements, and my own basic expenses.

I recognize this market rate impacts each person differently and disproportionately marginalizes folks who encounter barriers of racism, sexism, ableism, etc. To address this, I am using the following scale and invite you to locate yourself within it.

Since financial circumstances vary, I will check in about this every 6 months. This will enable me to share how the model is working, introduce any changes, and hear from you whether the rate you have chosen still reflects your current circumstances.  A detailed guide to "locate yourself" is sent via email prior to your free consultation.

Accepted Payments

I accept payment via credit card, HSA, or FSA card at the end of each session. Since I’m currently offering exclusively online therapy services, I’m accepting payment via a secure online platform accessible through your Simple Practice client portal.

Out-of-Network Billing

I do not accept insurance at this time. However, If you receive Out of Network (OON) benefits from your insurance coverage I can provide you with a monthly Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Health Insurance Reimbursement

If you are seeking Out of Network  reimbursement from your insurance coverage, here are some initial questions to ask your health insurance provider:

  1. Does my plan cover out-of-network providers?

  2. Do I have a deductible and if so, what is it?

  3. Have I met the deductible?

  4. Does my insurance plan have mental health coverage?

  5. What are the limits for mental health coverage (e.g. number of sessions, length of sessions, type of diagnosis etc.)?

  6. What is the out-of-network reimbursement rate for the following procedure codes?
90834 (individual 45-minute psychotherapy) and 90837 (individual 60 plus minutes psychotherapy).

Good Faith Estimate Notice

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
